Something so wrong
Yesterday we were getting Drew's lunch ready. Mitch has warmed up the beef and vegetable soup and I was getting him some yogurt. It was a new container of yogurt, but when I opened it something didn't look right. I smelled it and it seemed fine but something about the way it looked just didn't seem right. Like a good mom, I decided I should taste it before serving it to Drew. OH MY GOODNESS....IT WAS DISGUSTING!!!! I started screaming and spitting it into the sink. I wasn't happy about having that nasty curdled stuff in my mouth but at least I tried it before I gave it to Drew.

This dang foot
A couple years ago I broke my foot. I did not know this at the time though and am not sure how it happened...just one day it started hurting. I would try stretching it out and massaging it but to no avail. Then last summer I finally decided to go to the doctor. He turned out to be a real quack so after four months of his service I quit going. He was not helping at all and the pain was getting worse. A month ago my misery was at an all time high so I decided I needed to take care of this once and for all. I found a doctor in the yellow pages and called. At my first appointment, he did an x-ray and informed me that I didn't really break it - I destroyed it. The bone pieces have separated and look really bad although the bone isn't dead yet which he said is a concern for that bone b/c of its limited blood supply. He put me in a walking boot which I have now been wearing for four long weeks. It's starting to feel better but I am experiencing other problems due to wearing the boot. I don't have a shoe that is the same height as the boot so I'm lopsided when I walk around. When I'm at home, I go around barefoot on my good foot which really causes a height differential. This is causing great pain in my hips and lower back. The boot is also causing weird indentions on my leg which are starting to hurt. Next, I'm going to try some bone stimulator thing. I have to wait for them to clear it with my insurance company first which I guess usually takes about a week. So I'll have at least three more weeks in this thing. If it doesn't get all healed back up we're probably going to opt for surgery and remove the bone. That sounds scary and promising all at the same time. At least I have a positive out of this....due to my inability to walk around very well, I got a handicap parking permit for six months. That has really helped me out at work and when I have to run into a store quick.

Hello Again
I can't believe it's been a month and a half since I last posted. I'm very, very, very sorry Paige. I'm still working on getting some pictures for you to see. I promise that by the end of the weekend there will be pictures from Drew's birthday party.
On the house front, we had two people come and look this week. There's been a real dry spell but it seems to be picking up now that the weather is getting better. The first couple liked the house but aren't in a big hurry to make a decision. There's another house that they're looking at so we just have to wait and see if anything happens with them. The second couple, didn't actually make it into our house. Their realtor couldn't get the lock box to work so they're coming back next week. We really want to get this place sold b/c we're sick of being in limbo. We can't move forward with our new house until this one is sold so it's becoming stressful.
Let's see...what can I say about Drew. The boy is all boy and is CRAZY. He is so funny and constantly has me cracking up. I just can't believe that someone so small with really no vocabulary can have me laughing as much as he does. He is just such a little comedian. The best part is that he's like his mommy in that he also thinks he's funny.
He has nine words now that he actually knows what they mean. Like when he sees a puppy he says puppy...or at least his version of puppy. Then there are other words that we can get him to say but I don't think he associates them with anything. He is really getting good with listening and understanding what we're saying. For example, when I picked him up at the sitter's yesterday he came running over to me like normal. He had a toy in his hand and I asked him to go put it away. I never know what to do...do I just drop the toy on the floor or what do I do. There's a baby gate between me and the room so it's not like it's easy to get into the room. Anyway, Drew took the toy and handed it to Debbie. I was so proud of him.
Drew is starting to really assert his independence. He wants to be a big boy and do things for himself. It's great to see him growing up being able to do more and more but it also makes me sad that he doesn't need me as much anymore. This is also accompanied by some changes in his behavior. We've seen some real frustration come out and witnessed a few minor meltdowns. I know there's a lot more to come as he gets older so I'm a little scared.
Well, that's really all I've got for now.

My Teriffic Husband
On Thursday afternoon I got the stomach bug that Drew had and am finally starting to feel better today. Mitch has been absolutely wonderful taking care of Drew and me the whole time. I've been in bed since Thursday so Mitch has had to do everything for Drew which hasn't been easy at all since he decided to get sick again yesterday. Mitch has been so great bringing me glasses of water and anything else I could have possibly needed and allowing me to get the rest I needed. He even took the day off Friday to take care of us even though he had a lot going on at work that day. The best part....he hasn't complained once. He just continues to unselfishly love and take care of us. Thanks for being an awesome husband and daddy Mitch!!!!!

Happy Birthday Drew!!!!
My how fast a year can go. It seems like just yesterday I experienced 36 blissful hours of labor only to have a c-section. Yes you may be sensing a bit of bitterness left from the whole experience. Today is supposed to be a wonderful day to celebrate our baby turning one. Instead, Drew is sick, sick, sick. First he was sick on Christmas and now on his birthday. He really needs to pick his illness days better.
So, yesterday when I picked Drew up from daycare she said that he had a weird day. Apparently he fell asleep on the floor at 11:30 which is something he has NEVER done before. She took him back to his room where he slept for 3 hours. The poor kid didn't get lunch until 3:00 PM. On the way home he fell asleep again which he never does. All of this was after he had gone to bed at 7:00 the night before so you would have thought he was properly rested. After we got home he was pretty crabby. He felt a little warm but he didn't seem to have a fever or anything.
Today is a work day so I had to wake Drew up this morning. When I walked into the room I was shocked by the site. I won't give you the details but will say that he threw up sometime early this morning and didn't let us know. There has been one more episode so far this morning and I'm not holding out much hope for the rest of the day. He's down for a nap right now so I'm hoping he feels better when he wakes up. I know it's no fun to be sick on your birthday. Luckily he's still too little to know what's going on.

My baby isn't a baby anymore
I can't believe that my little man is going to be one next week. It's crazy that he's not a baby anymore. Really, he hasn't seemed like a baby for quite awhile now but I still think of him as my baby. He loves acting like a big boy and asserting his independence.
Drew's favorite things:
1. Running as fast as he can
2. Spinning in a circle and then trying to walk (hilarious!!!!)
3. The Eye Book by Dr. Seuss
4. Stealing bites of deserts
5. Playing chase with Daddy
6. Climbing onto the furniture like a big guy
7. Putting the pillows on the floor to sit on for his own little chair
8. Raw potatoes in the kitchen
9. Silicon baking sheets
10. Putting his fingers up his nose (we're trying to stop this)

Surgery Went Well
We had to be there at 6:50 this morning for Drew's procedure at 7:50. He was so good this morning and everyone was amazed at how happy he was considering he hadn't had anything to eat or drink since 8:30 last night. He went right to the nurse when she came to take him away and didn't cry at all that we could hear. Ten minutes later the doctor came to talk to us telling what he had found. We were shocked when he walked in saying it was over...it was ten minutes before it was even supposed to have started.
He removed three blockages meaning that it would have never opened on its own. He said that we won't know for a month whether it's going to close back up or stay open for good. The doctor reported that Drew did awesome and didn't have any problems taking the mask and being put under. Ten minutes after that the nurse came walking in with him. When they put us in the room to wait we were told that we would probably hear him crying when he woke up because he'd be feeling strange from the anesthesia and wouldn't know where he was. We never heard a peep from down the hall and when she gave him to us he was smiling and there were no signs of tears. He's such a good boy!!!
He's doing good now. He was a little cranky when we got home at 8:30 because he'd been up since 6 and hadn't had more than a few drinks of water. He wasn't supposed to get a bottle or any food until 10:30 but we gave it a little earlier and sent him off for a nap because he was exhausted!!! This afternoon he's been up and playing and getting back to his old self. Hopefully the rest of the day goes good and he's back to normal tomorrow but without the icky eye!! :)
Thanks for all the prayers!!!!!

I'm freaking out
I can't sleep right now because I'm worried about Drew's surgery tomorrow. I'm not worried about the procedure itself. It's more the going under anesthesia part. Every time I close my eyes I picture some scene from one of the hospital dramas I've watched over the years. Even though they explained to me that there's hardly any risk to Drew you can't stop a mother from worrying about her baby.
AHHHHHHHHH
Today I am 29. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH....that means that next year I'll be 30. I'm thinking I'm not going to handle 30 very gracefully.
